Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

good product
By chloe on Nov 2, 2021
My little chi likes this and she is picky. For all of you who say it is sticky and you can't get it off the spoon and your dog has a hard time eating it, did you ever think of adding a little water to it and mixing it up first in a bowl. that's what I do. Depending on how much your dog eats at one time would determine how much water you add. but just start out with a couple of teaspoons of water and mash it down and mix it up. makes it so easy to eat that way. If its still too thick just add another teaspoon of water. My chi only eats a couple of tablespoons at a time, so I usually add only 2 teaspoons of water and mix well. You also likes the l/d original flavor, and it is so hard, but My little chi likes this and she is picky. New Formula and Dented Cans
By FrancysMom on Oct 14, 2021
A while ago, Hills changed the formula of this prescription dog food. I have spoken with Hills Indicating that the food was stickier, had clumps of starch and an unpleasant odor. They provided the a list of changes and assured me that the modifications did not affect the nutritional value. They also said to mix in the starch (really!). Given the inconsistencies in the food and the Innumerable times I have received dented cans (7 dented cans out of 12 recently), after 7 years, I have made a decision to change brands. In consultation with one of Francy's 3 physicians, we identified a new brand that has the same properties. It is so similar that there is no gradual introduction required.

Dog loves it!
By Moni on Nov 7, 2021
First dog food my dog really loves. Dori and I had such a problem finding the right food. Now we are both happy. I am so happy she is eating again and that I am not so frustrating trying to feed her. She is such a picky eater. I always had to keep changing her food because she would not eat it. I am happy that she is feeling better, she had the runs and now she is back to having stools. Thank you so much!

Chicken delay - turkey replacement
By Oscar on Oct 18, 2021
This was suggested for a replacement for the Chicken Stew during the delay in getting shipments. Our Olde English Bulldog wasn't extremely happy with in but did adjust to it. Ordinarily, we mix the canned with the dry and it was an extremely thick canned dog food. I did mix it with the chicken cans that I had left so as not just change abruptly. If I might suggest that when the wonderful customer service department is telling or suggesting this product that they let potential customers know that it is not easy to mix in to another product (if applicable).

Don't like it
By Mary on Oct 17, 2021
Hill's, please bring back your Prescription I/D chicken & rice stew!!! It's the only food my dog has been able to eat without getting pancreatitis. Since you have been out of it, I switched to this and I must say, the smell and consistency actually make me gag when I open the can. It's so sticky, that I can't get it off the spoon. And it takes my poor pup forever to eat each mouthful because it's sticky like peanut butter. I'm begging you to please bring back the chicken/rice stew!

This food is terrible!
By DrJen on Nov 2, 2021
This was prescribed for my dog with a sensitive digestive tract. He will usually eat anything, but he will not touch this stuff. The smell alone makes me want to hurl. Not sure if we got a bad batch or what. I'm stuck with 22 cans he will not eat. Maybe I can see if the SPCA wants it. Super disappointed.

My dogs approve.
By KMLabbe on Oct 8, 2021
The vet prescribed this special food for my Schnoodle when she wasn't eating well (unknown reason) . We replaced some of her dry food with the canned food for a few day. She really liked it, as did the miniature Australian Shepherd, who gets it now and then also. Now I keep a few cans on hand to help out when the stomachs seem upset. (Of course with vet recommendation).

Try before buying too many cases
By spikey on Oct 18, 2021
We're not sure this agreed with our dog. He usually eats the chicken stew but it's been out of stock. This was more of a pate, the smell is awful and he hasn't been feeling great after eating it.. however he didn't show that he didn't like it!! We've moved on to the low fat chicken stew and he seems to be enjoying it.

Spoiled cans
By KarCan on Oct 30, 2021
Two different cases and the food is gross. Terrible odor, white film, hole in the middle. Chewy was wonderful refunding me. But company said it's normal. Nope. Never again feeling my dog this food.

Great best ever
By Luie on Sep 29, 2021
Thanks to our vet, who recommended Digestive Care, our 14 year old rescue Dolly, is back to her old self. She has lost weight. Which is good. No more vomiting no more getting sick. Loves her walks. The best thing is that her arthritis seems so much better. Hopefully with Digestive Care she will be around much longer. This winter we thought we were going to have to put her down she was so sick.
